Dr. Jawali’s career has been marked by surgical quality, creativity, and academic leadership, and he has conducted over 18,000 cardiothoracic and vascular procedures, including numerous landmark surgeries.

He is internationally recognized for pioneering and developing minimally invasive heart surgery in India. In 1992, he performed India’s first beating heart bypass operation, followed by the country’s first minimally invasive bypass surgery (MIDCAB), in 1994. In 2002, he earned international news for performing the world’s first awake open-heart surgery on a 74-year-old patient, which was done without general anesthesia or ventilator assistance.
