Dr. Deepu Banerji

Dr. Deepu Banerji is one of India’s most renowned neurosurgeons, with over 38 years of experience in brain and spine surgery. He is currently a Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai and a recognised expert in neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, and minimally invasive neurosurgical methods. With over 8,000 successful brain and spine surgeries under his belt, Dr. Banerji has received national and worldwide acclaim for his contributions to the profession.

Dr. Banerji received his MCh in Neurosurgery from GIPMER, New Delhi, in 1986, and began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at NIMHANS, Bengaluru. He eventually became a faculty member at SGPGIMS, Lucknow, where he worked from 1990 to 2005, training neurosurgery trainees and implementing cutting-edge neurosurgical programs. He is a Sugita Fellow at Nagoya University in Japan, and he has also served as a visiting faculty member at Shinshu University and Mount Sinai in New York.

Dr. Banerji’s activities include teaching, research, and professional leadership in addition to clinical practice. He has chaired over significant societies such as the Neurological Society of India and the Skull Base Surgery Society of India, as well as given distinguished orations and talks around the world. Notably, he conducted the first artificial cervical disc arthroplasty in Western India in 2007.
