By mimicking natural anatomy, TSR improves function and durability, making it the gold standard for end-stage shoulder arthritis with an intact rotator cuff. 

Partial Shoulder Replacement (Hemiarthroplasty) 

Partial shoulder replacement (hemiarthroplasty) involves replacing only the damaged humeral head while preserving the natural glenoid socket. This approach is ideal for patients with isolated humeral-sided damage, such as fractures or focal arthritis, when the socket remains healthy. It offers simpler surgery and faster recovery but may require future conversion to total replacement if arthritis progresses. 

Reverse Shoulder Replacement

Reverse shoulder replacement repositions the joint’s anatomy, placing the “ball” on the scapula and the “socket” on the humerus. This design relies on the deltoid muscle instead of a torn rotator cuff to restore function, making it ideal for severe arthritis with irreparable cuff tears. Though it limits overhead motion, it significantly reduces pain and improves stability

Resurfacing Shoulder Replacement

Resurfacing shoulder replacement involves capping the damaged humeral head with a smooth metal prosthesis, preserving more natural bone than traditional replacements. Ideal for early-stage arthritis or younger patients, it reduces pain while maintaining joint anatomy. However, it’s unsuitable for advanced joint damage or rotator cuff deficiency. Recovery is typically quicker due to its bone-conserving approach.
