Dr. Suresh V. Joshi is a renowned Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgeon with over 40 years of experience treating complex heart diseases. He is currently the Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai, where he has developed various new cardiac surgical methods, including Minimally Invasive and Beating Heart Surgery. He is largely regarded as Western India’s first trained paediatric and congenital heart surgeon, having performed Mumbai’s first open-heart surgery on a newborn baby.
Dr. Joshi earned his MS in General Surgery and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from the University of Bombay, where he graduated first place in 1981. He later received advanced heart surgery training at leading Australian centres. Before joining Jaslok Hospital in 1988, he made important contributions to surgical education and cardiac treatment at KEM Hospital in Mumbai.
He founded a Centre of Excellence for Heart Valve Diseases at Jaslok and has since done numerous adult and paediatric heart operations with remarkable success rates. His Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) techniques, which include valve repair and beating heart treatments performed through small incisions rather than piercing the breastbone, have become industry standards.
