Dr. Trehan received his MBBS from King George’s Medical University in Lucknow in 1963 and then pursued further studies in the United States. He started his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and worked at the New York University Medical Centre from 1971 until 1988. In 1988, he returned to India to establish the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre (EHIRC), which transformed cardiac care delivery in the country.

He currently runs Medanta, a worldwide recognised centre of expertise in cardiac sciences. He is also noted for his advancements in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and has been the personal surgeon to India’s President since 1991. Dr. Trehan’s services to medicine have been recognised with significant national honours, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Dr. B. C. Roy Award, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award.
