About Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rela
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rela is regarded as one of the world’s most skilled surgeons in the fields of liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. In his more than three decades of practice, he has carried out over 6,000 liver transplants and invented a number of innovative surgical methods, such as the split liver and auxiliary liver transplant operations. Professor Rela is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Chennai’s Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, a prestigious quaternary care facility renowned for its top-notch transplant treatments.
When he performed a liver transplant on a five-day-old baby in 1997, he became well-known around the world and was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records.
